Backfill Tiers — PAUSED

Phase 5 — tagging existing Shopify products by tier

⚠ Operation paused — Option C adopted 2026-05-15

Do not run this backfill. The buttons below are disabled.

What happened:

  • The original real-run timed out at Vercel's 300s cap after tagging ~501 of 5,100 products.
  • Catalog turned out to be 5,100+ products (mostly BookCloud dropship), not the ~400 originally estimated.
  • Strategic decision: tier tags are analytics-only. Storefront templates do not read tier-* tags.

Why this is fine:

  • tier-originals (2 products) and tier-curated (24 products) are at 100% coverage — these are the tags used for indie/Direct author promotions and sales.
  • tier-mainstream is at 501/5,100, but that's only relevant if we ever need "explicitly mainstream" queries. We don't.
  • Forward-looking patches (1A/1B) keep auto-tagging tier-originals on every new Direct submission.

If full coverage is ever needed: redesign with batching (Vercel 300s cap × ~50ms per tagsAdd mutation × 5,100 products = no margin). See handoff doc for Approach A/B options.

Step 2 — Dry Run

Reviews what WOULD be tagged without making changes. Safe to re-run as many times as you want.

Dry-run still works for inspection, but the backfill itself is paused. See banner above.

Step 3 — Real Run (DISABLED)

⚠ Disabled per Option C decision. See top banner.
